Perhaps the first impression that pops up to our heads is the raw image of the ocean sparkling bubbles indicating it has reached the boiling state. If you are really interested on how to actually boil the ocean then perhaps this is not the right article to read. Although logically to boil the ocean seems impossible, theoretically there could be a way; a way with no easy paths and tracks, a sinusoidal chain of events that must be treated with patience and professionalism as the results are not immediate. This article basically deals with habits which might empower your actions and in case preserved will definitely elevate your lifestyle. To set habits is no piece of cake, you need motivation, determination, direction, objectives and goals to pursue. Going back to the ocean use case, imagine a wave of volcanoes erupting underwater simultaneously creating enough heat capable enough of not only boiling, but also evaporating the ocean. Lets start the journey to identify our volcanoes.

1. Don’t Run Like a Chicken Without a Head

Yes, chickens can still run even after being decapitated; moreover, many living beings will still have the nervous system partially operating for a short interval of time after suffering from critical changes into the basic anatomy setup. Far away from what actually running without a head means, lets double click on its social meaning, running without a head is a waste of time and efforts as it clearly indicates no direction and no objectives. Perhaps having an objective is easy, i.e.: it is easy to say I want to warn lot of money. However having a correct direction is not that simple, you can spend days working and exhausting yourself pushing your extreme capabilities without any yield because you had no proper direction to focus on. Setting a direction is important as it will guide your deeds to the proper channels which will serve your case and objectives. If we can to take to continue elaborating on the previous example (making money), we might consider a proper direction to invest on stock market or opening a bar. Directing your efforts on the way to make money or on the way your objectives can be filled is an essential task.

2. Shall You Expect The Magic Stick?

At schools we are always thought that successes and failures run in opposite directions and patterns. From my humble experiences in life, I have managed to find common interlocks between these two terms. The most relevant pattern is the way they occur. Both of them share a similar way to develop. They start with similar individual contributions that are called reasons, which develop into a chain of events in a snow ball behavior with minimal day to day contributions till reaching the climax in which as a matter of a sudden all your deeds (whether good or bad) will be visible at once. If you are on a diet, eating a high calorie meal a single day wont make a major impact, however repeating this action regularly will eventually add a couple of kilos to your body which you wont be able to witness except for the day you go on the scale. Similarly, building up on the diet example, following the rules assigned by the nutritionist wont show a drop till the you suddenly notice that your pants are way bigger than what they used to be. The point to consider here is that no one possesses a magic stick, no matter how hard the attempts for success could be, patience will always be a virtue and results will take time to appear.

3. Elude Walking, Running & Jumping At The Same Time

Assuming the scenario that you have got the necessary skills to set up objectives, directions and patience related to you actions. A person is still vulnerable to inorganized behaviors which mainly take place after anticipating outcomes and trying to reinvent the wheel. Remember part of the patience needed to be handled is directly linked to organization and dedication invested into specific tasks. Sometimes it is better to go slowly and surely rather than walking, running and jumping at the same time.

4. Think Big, Act Small, Scale Fast & Roll Up Your Sleeves

Imagine each every thought as a transaction in your mind. Those transactions need to be stored into files, eventually you will end up building a database of files (both negative and positive ones). It is important you treat each one of them as an actual file:

  1. Disposable
  2. Manageable
  3. Treatable

Always get to our best case scenario and your worst one. Set your mind for the worst possible scenarios as they will become your objectives to dispose (Point 1). In parallel, set your mind also for best possible outcome there and state your separate use cases as they will become your objectives to manage and treat (points 2 & 3). Start from the top with the biggest idea ever and start to narrow down in your portfolio funnel, through the process you will find out eventually that many of your thoughts will fails to continue and become irrelevant, some other will become just repetitions and redundancies of previous ideas which you will have to omit as well. Next step, take baby steps as fast you can, this way your risks will be lower per step. In other words, instead of having a single big step a day with a 50% probability of failure, you can do 10 minor steps with a 10% failure probability on that same day. A clear example of this is a cars gearbox, whenever the car starts rolling, the biggest gear is engaged and it starts moving to the smaller one which will yield a faster speed with less power required from the engine.

5. Define The Name of Your Game

Remember that boiling the ocean is not something very common and practiced around, so you better give it a taste of humor to keep the wheel moving and avoid losing momentum. The name of the game could be a slogan, a motto, a movie’s name, etc.…. The most important factor here is to think out of the box and always have an alterative plan to your actions. Finally but not last, focus on the way you finish; always invest double the efforts at the end of any activity to ensure that whatever investment you put will not go in vain. Remember people care about reactions more than they do about actions.
